MARIKA DESIGNS / OUR STORY
A little light,
chosen by you.
In middle school, my favorite hair clip was covered in tiny crystals. Whenever sunlight streamed through the hallway windows, it would sparkle. Putting it on was a small, happy ritual before school: a moment in the mirror, a little shimmer in my hair.
One day, a male teacher asked me in front of other people, “Why are you wearing something so flashy? Are you trying to get boys’ attention?”
I don’t remember the lesson that day. But I still remember those words. In a place where I was supposed to feel encouraged to explore, I found myself being asked to justify something as simple as wanting to feel pretty.
At that age, I didn’t know how to respond. I just liked my hair clip. Suddenly, that didn’t seem like a good enough reason.
As I grew older, I found words for what I couldn’t explain back then. I read women writers who refused to let others define them. I listened to women speak openly about their ambitions, their bodies, and their choices. And I met women making everyday decisions on their own terms.
Eventually, I had an answer for the girl I used to be:
I like it because it makes me happy. That’s reason enough.
Then I discovered diamond painting.
One ordinary evening, I sat down and began placing tiny, sparkling gems onto a canvas. As the colors came together and the picture caught the light, I recognized a familiar feeling: the simple joy I used to feel standing in front of the mirror before school.
A joy that needed no one else’s approval.
This time, I was creating the sparkle myself.
That feeling is why we started this brand.
We want to help women make a little room for themselves. A spot at the kitchen table after a long day. A sunny corner on a slow weekend, with a cup of coffee and a favorite playlist. Somewhere to set aside expectations, choose a design you love, and create something beautiful, one gem at a time.
You don’t need an artistic background. You don’t need to finish in a hurry. There’s pleasure in choosing colors, settling into the process, and getting to say, “I made this.” Hang it in your apartment, give it to a friend, or keep it simply because you love it.
We believe women deserve to decide what their lives look like—including how they spend their free time. Making something doesn’t need a grand purpose. Your happiness is worth making time for.
Every gem is a little light you choose for yourself.
For the girl who was once made to question her love of sparkle. And for anyone ready to make a little joy of their own.
Make time for yourself. Make something that shines.
